Metro
Since the service was introduced in 1924, the metro network has become the most-used public transport, with more than one million people travelling each day in a comfortable, fast and safe way.
The Barcelona metro has 8 lines: L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L9n, L9s, L10 and L11, apart from the Funicular de Montjuïc mountain. It includes 56 stations distributed beneath the city. It allows you to travel faster and combine your journeys with other modes of transport.
It is a highly efficient mode of transport in terms of energy and emission of pollutants, and is more frequent and has higher average speeds than modes of transport above ground, since it uses exclusive tracks and does not have to coexist with any other vehicles.
TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) is the public company which operates the metro service in the city of Barcelona.
The city metro network is rounded off with some Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (train) lines (L6, L7, L8 and L12) which provide railway coverage in the territory.
