Sant Antoni to get a definitive quality green urban design
Local residents are now familiar with the definitive transformation of the streets of Comte Borrell, Parlament and Aldana, as well as the junction between Comte Borrell and Parlament. The draft project provides continuity for the transformation in Comte Borell and puts an end to the provisional design with a remodelling project that boosts greenery considerably and clarifies the different uses of the street.

The sphere of action covers an overall surface area of around 22,600 square metres and includes C/ Comte Borrell (between C/ Manso and Av. Paral·lel), as well as the section of C/ Parlament between C/ Viladomat and Av. Paral·lel and C/ Aldana, between C/ Comte Borrell and Rda, Sant Pau.
The consolidation project includes the new square at the junction between C/ Comte Borrell and C/ Parlament, offering a focal point for local people, with more greenery, recreational areas and different items of furniture. The draft project for the section of C/ Comte Borrell between C/ Parlament and C/ Manso is the work of the Sola Gori studio, while the square is the work of the Leku studio.
Transformation to include learning from other street-calming projects
The City Council is opting for a structural transformation that keeps curbless paving and embraces the things learnt from other street-calming projects, improving on aspects that do not work and consolidating successful elements, particularly when it comes to the distribution of greenery and spatial uses, particularly in terms of loading and unloading goods.
One of the main things learnt and adopted is the increase in greenery, with special emphasis on trees and a reduction in parterres in trunk sections of the streets. Experience in other spaces has shown that parterres are maintained better in places with more sunlight, such as street corners. To this end, a double line of trees will be chosen on the sides of streets with more sunlight and parterres will be limited to the new square and street corners, where optimum sunlight and maintenance conditions are guaranteed.
The management of urban goods distribution (DUM) will be optimised with specific spaces clearly defined for loading and unloading, allowing better spatial organisation and facilitating coexistence between commercial and community uses. As for materials, the classic panot paving stone will be used in exclusively pedestrian areas, while granite will be used for areas used by vehicles, maintaining the logic of previous tactical interventions and ensuring the durability and sustainability of paving.
Calendar and investment
The calendar for the project should see the projects approved and tendered in the third quarter of this year, with work to begin in the first quarter of 2026. The estimated cost is 11.5 million euros, of which 6.7 million corresponds to C/ Comte Borrell; 1.4 million to the new square, and 3 million for the section between C/ Viladomat and Av. Paral·lel and C/ Aldana, between C/ Comte Borrell and Ronda Sant Pau.
Before starting work, the groundwater network needs to be extended. The preliminary work will enable the new urbanised section to be connected to the municipal groundwater network so new greenery can be watered with alternative water, representing an important saving in safe water. The enlargement of the network corresponds to the Montjuïc area, which will be fully completed at the end of the year.
